Despite the headlines, last night was a great night for Connecticut Republicans and our candidates. Across the state, many Republican candidates enjoyed momentous wins, some with large margins of victory. I've outlined below some of the specifics for what proved to be a successful night.
The following is based on all information that is currently available to the CT GOP and contained on the SOTS website as of 3:30PM.

Republicans enjoyed a net gain of five towns which extends our majority from 99 towns with Republican control to 104.
As more results become available, we expect these numbers to stay consistent as outstanding towns were not heavily contested.
Many towns saw Republican candidates win by large margins such as East Lyme where Republican First Selectman Paul Formica won by a 6-1 margin and South Windsor where the lowest Republican vote-getter beat the highest Democratic vote-getter.
Additionally, many towns saw a Republican sweep--with Republicans winning every (or nearly every) office for which they fielded a candidate (Farmington, Colchester, Plainville, South Windsor, Seymour, Cromwell, and others).
There are a few of instances across the state where we expect recounts including East Haven and Cheshire. The Connecticut Republican Party intends to be very involved in the recount process as a part of our initiative to insure integrity and transparency.

At first glance Connecticut's 3rd Congressional District appears to be a Republican nightmare.

However - look at the disparity between our cash-strapped candidates and their respective results!

Our candidates have out performed their donations by a factor of over 4 to 1

Let's All Help The East Hartford Republicans

A hearty lot those East Hartford Republicans, 

badly outnumbered, rarely a majority on any board or commission; they continue fight the good fight.

God Bless them they deserve a tip of the hat.

East Hartford has recruited one candidate that I've become quite familiar 

with, and who impresses everyone I've introduced him to.

Hector Reveron

Hector has a Bachelor of Technology from Aeronautics College in New York, 
and  works for Pratt and Whitney as a technician and Quality Control 
for the military and major airlines around the world. 

Fellow Republicans, it's imperative we get this man on base; my plan is to purchase additional signs (they have so few) and do a blitz in E. Hartford in Hector's behalf the weekend prior to the election.

Forget Cigarettes - It's The Damn Goats!

Goats increase chance of lung cancer!

Exposure to goats could increase the risk of a certain type of lung cancer, according to French researchers.

The study, which will be presented at the European Respiratory Society's Annual Congress in Amsterdam today (25 September 2011), has linked a professional exposure to goats with a distinct subset of lung cancer, known as pneumonic-type lung adenocarcinoma (P-ADC).

This form of lung cancer has a weak association with tobacco smoking when compared with other types of the disease. In attempting to identify other triggers that may cause the disease, scientists have previously noticed similarities between P-ADC and a viral infection which causes growths in the lungs of sheep. Given these similarities, the researchers have investigated whether a viral agent found in sheep and goats could be easily transferred to people who work with the animals, leading to a partiality for P-ADC.

The current epidemiologic study involved 44 patients with P-ADC and 132 controls without the disease. All participants were given a questionnaire assessing a number of risk factors including their smoking status, their personal history of cancer and their exposure to goats.

The results showed that people who had experienced a professional exposure to goats during their lifetime were five times more likely to get P-ADC compared with other types of lung cancer.

The findings also showed that P-ADC was significantly associated with females, and people who had never smoked or had any personal history of cancer.

Dr Nicolas Girard, from the Louis Pradel Hospital, Hospices Civils de Lyon, said: "Scientists have noticed similarities between P-ADC and a contagious viral infection in sheep before. This led us to explore the possibility that professional exposure to cattle could make humans more susceptible to P-ADC. These findings demonstrate that exposure to goats could be a risk factor for this type of lung cancer, however further studies are needed to assess other potential risk factors for the disease."

After the Packers / Vikings game, Minnesota fired Brad Childress and most of his staff.

Singletary

Four weeks after losing to the Packers, the 49er's coach Mike Singletary and most of his staff were fired and replaced.

Cutler 

During the Bears Playoff game, the Packers injured Jay Cutler 

Collins

and backup Todd Collins 

Hanie

forcing the Bears to go with 3rd string quarterback Caleb Hanie.
