Sampson, Markley break national 1 hour  fund-raising record!

State Rep. Rob Sampson and Sen. Joe Markley helped raise more than $24,000 to help feed local families in need recently.

Teaming up with The Salvation Army, Sampson and Markley ran one of their iconic red collection kettles outside of the Walmart on Queen Street.

Shortly after their hour-long shift started, local firefighters pulled up in an engine and dumped a manila envelope full of money into the pot.

The legislators collected more than $9,000 in checks and more than $3,000 in bills and coins.

Bruce ("Zeke") Zalaski arrested on DUI charge.

A state representative has been arrested on a drunken-driving charge following a traffic stop in Bristol.

Bristol police say Rep. Bruce "Zeke" Zalaski of Southington was arrested early Wednesday morning.

Newly elected New London Mayor Finizio `legalizes' pot

From the New London Day: 

Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio issued his first four executive orders today, instructing the city police department not to target for arrest potential illegal immigrants and people found in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on private property.


The order goes on to say that no New London police officer shall be disciplined for failing to enforce such drug laws.
