Two do us proud!  Then of course there's that other one......

Sampson, Markley break national 1 hour  fund-raising record!

Senator Joe Markley greets Southington resident  (Illustrious) Jim Vander Eyk
as State Representative Rob Sampson looks on, while fund-raising

in front of the Southington WalMart store earlier this month.

State Rep. Rob Sampson and Sen. Joe Markley helped raise more than $24,000 to help feed local families in need recently.

Teaming up with The Salvation Army, Sampson and Markley ran one of their iconic red collection kettles outside of the Walmart on Queen Street.

Shortly after their hour-long shift started, local firefighters pulled up in an engine and dumped a manila envelope full of money into the pot.

The legislators collected more than $9,000 in checks and more than $3,000 in bills and coins.

Meanwhile...
Bruce ("Zeke") Zalaski arrested on DUI charge.

A state representative has been arrested on a drunken-driving charge following a traffic stop in Bristol.

Bristol police say Rep. Bruce "Zeke" Zalaski of Southington was arrested early Wednesday morning.

Now let's get it right:
The Pilgrims were not Puritans

The `Pilgrims' (our name for them, not theirs) were not Puritans regardless of how many dimwits think they were, author text books with the same disgusting lie, or post articles in print or online repeating the same nonsense.

It's a lie and the Puritans were nothing less than horrid. Defending them or boasting of one's lineage to them is akin to the same as it regards members of Germany's 3rd Reich SS Nazis.

There is no defense for the Puritans.

The Mayflower Separatists neither robbed nor disabused the native Americans (Henceforth here referred to as "Pilgrims" and "Indians" due only to the commonality of the terms as it applies to them.)  they encountered and who were kind enough to befriend the small colony. Quite the contrary in fact as the two groups found themselves in a symbiotic relationship in no time at all. The Indians being familiar with local food sources and the Pilgrims access to then modern hunting gear such as early firearms.

A decade after the arrival of the Mayflower Pilgrims the horrid Puritans began arriving setting up their own adjacent Massachusetts Bay Colony (and running roughshod over Plymouth Colony at every opportunity)
It was a scant 7 years before Thomas Hooker led a group to what became Hartford and later Connecticut so as to escape the reach of the dastardly theocracy the Puritans were creating.

Republicans Gain

on Wednesday, November 9, 2011

Blow Out!
Congratulations
to my
Town Committee

Elsewhere:

Despite the headlines, last night was a great night for Connecticut Republicans and our candidates. Across the state, many Republican candidates enjoyed momentous wins, some with large margins of victory. I've outlined below some of the specifics for what proved to be a successful night.
The following is based on all information that is currently available to the CT GOP and contained on the SOTS w
ebsite as of 3:30PM.

REPUBLICAN PICK-UPS
Windsor Locks (town council majority)
Tolland
Hampton
Stafford
South Windsor
Sherman
Suffield
Seymour
Plainville
Oxford
Harwinton
East Haven (pending recount)
Cromwell
Beacon Falls
Total: 14 Towns

DEMOCRATIC PICK-UPS
Chester
Burlington
Middletown
Milford
New Britain
Manchester
Newington
Southbury
Old Lyme
Total: 9 Towns

Republicans enjoyed a net gain of five towns which extends our majority from 99 towns with Republican control to 104.
As more results become available, we expect these numbers to stay consistent as outstanding towns were not heavily contested.
Many towns saw Republican candidates win by large margins such as East Lyme where Republican First Selectman Paul Formica won by a 6-1 margin and South Windsor where the lowest Republican vote-getter beat the highest Democratic vote-getter.
Additionally, many towns saw a Republican sweep--with Republicans winning every (or nearly every) office for which they fielded a candidate (Farmington, Colchester, Plainville, South Windsor, Seymour, Cromwell, and others).
There are a few of instances across the state where we expect recounts including East Haven and Cheshire. The Connecticut Republican Party intends to be very involved in the recount process as a part of our initiative to insure integrity and transparency.

A Benevolent Monopoly?

on Saturday, November 5, 2011
It surely seemed like a good idea at the time.
CTL&P as a baby

Without granting some sort of monopoly to what appeared to be small harmless start-up ventures, the country would never have gotten wired for electricity or telephones thus began what would be known as
Benevolent Monopolies
CTL&P Today
who would later become giant utilities.

Republicans can take the 3rd

on Friday, October 21, 2011
At first glance Connecticut's 3rd Congressional District appears to be a Republican nightmare.

However - look at the disparity between our cash-strapped candidates and their respective results!

Our candidates have out performed their donations by a factor of over 4 to 1

Let's All Help The East Hartford Republicans

on Thursday, September 29, 2011
A hearty lot those East Hartford Republicans,
badly outnumbered, rarely a majority on any board or commission; they continue fight the good fight.
God Bless them they deserve a tip of the hat.

This cycle they appear to have put together a fairly impressive slate of candidates, you can learn about all of them right here:   http://www.ehgop.com/election-2011/

East Hartford has recruited one candidate that I've become quite familiar
with, and who impresses everyone I've introduced him to.

Hector Reveron
Hector has a Bachelor of Technology from Aeronautics College in New York,
and  works for Pratt and Whitney as a technician and Quality Control
for the military and major airlines around the world.

Fellow Republicans, it's imperative we get this man on base; my plan is to purchase additional signs (they have so few) and do a blitz in E. Hartford in Hector's behalf the weekend prior to the election.
We can do so legally too.

Want to help a little? Donate $10 or $20 towards the signs or show up with us that weekend?

Forget Cigarettes - It's The Damn Goats!

WARNING: Exposure to Goats
may cause cancer.
Goats increase chance of lung cancer!

Amsterdam, The Netherlands:

Exposure to goats could increase the risk of a certain type of lung cancer, according to French researchers.

The study, which will be presented at the European Respiratory Society's Annual Congress in Amsterdam today (25 September 2011), has linked a professional exposure to goats with a distinct subset of lung cancer, known as pneumonic-type lung adenocarcinoma (P-ADC).

This form of lung cancer has a weak association with tobacco smoking when compared with other types of the disease. In attempting to identify other triggers that may cause the disease, scientists have previously noticed similarities between P-ADC and a viral infection which causes growths in the lungs of sheep. Given these similarities, the researchers have investigated whether a viral agent found in sheep and goats could be easily transferred to people who work with the animals, leading to a partiality for P-ADC.

Stealth killers or innocent
Tobacco-Free Kids?
The current epidemiologic study involved 44 patients with P-ADC and 132 controls without the disease. All participants were given a questionnaire assessing a number of risk factors including their smoking status, their personal history of cancer and their exposure to goats.

The results showed that people who had experienced a professional exposure to goats during their lifetime were five times more likely to get P-ADC compared with other types of lung cancer.

The findings also showed that P-ADC was significantly associated with females, and people who had never smoked or had any personal history of cancer.

Dr Nicolas Girard, from the Louis Pradel Hospital, Hospices Civils de Lyon, said: "Scientists have noticed similarities between P-ADC and a contagious viral infection in sheep before. This led us to explore the possibility that professional exposure to cattle could make humans more susceptible to P-ADC. These findings demonstrate that exposure to goats could be a risk factor for this type of lung cancer, however further studies are needed to assess other potential risk factors for the disease."

FDA sets stage for mass murder

on Friday, September 23, 2011
This was my sister Nancy's 1963 high school yearbook photo.

Nancy died at 26 in September of 1971 in the midst of a severe asthma attack while trying to load her syringe with adrenaline.

Had the FDA not tied up the Asthma Inhaler for a full decade prior to approving it for use in the United States, she would be 65 now.
Asthmatics across Europe and Canada had been using the inhaler for ages at the time of Nancy's death.

Now they're at it again!

Federal health officials are alerting asthma patients that a type of inhaler sold over the counter will be phased out at year's end because it uses carbon gas that depletes the Earth's atmosphere.
Read entire article here - FDA phases out inhaler.

Here's the real problem - the prescription inhalers simply don't work for some asthmatics anywhere nearly as well as the 5 times less expensive over the counter unit being banned.

Thousands of asthmatics will undoubtedly succumb do to this heavy handed decision by the FDA and one real shame is that not one of those involved will ever be charged as they so rightfully should be, with murder.

AT&T Drops Ball and Calls!

on Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Christine Stuart AKA
Connecticut News Junkie
Connecticut News Junkie has an interesting piece up regarding the disparity between cell providers during and after emergency situations as we in Connecticut have just (and some still are) gone through.

Author Lon Seidman confirms what I learned the hard way after spending 12+ years with the folks that after multiple mergers and name changes became AT&T Wireless - they stink.

Seidman points out:
In small shoreline communities averse to unsightly cell towers, carriers often share the same space. AT&T’s largest competitor in Connecticut, Verizon Wireless, was functioning in the affected areas and throughout most of the state using many of the same towers.

How can that be? You might ask.

Generators

Verizon is a more responsible company and has approximately 300  generators already in place in CT alone at their tower locations set to automatically protect their coverage.

The photo to the right illustrates what Katrina taught Verizon.

Considering that in 2010 there were already 25% of American households without telephone land lines and that percentage is growing; Verizon's actions are those of a firm that recognizes the importance of delivering their product and especially during times of calamity.

Just say "NO" to AT&T

Thus, even if you're fastidious regarding your cell phone and have equipped yourself with all sorts of emergency backup plans as seen here, it won't matter a bit if your carrier isn't up to the job.

Hey AT&T - Can you hear me now?
My Verizon bias is a matter of record; from their own site:  In Our Customers' Own Words

Connecticut Republicans need to get our Good Luck Back!

on Tuesday, August 23, 2011
Every Connecticut Republican is aware that our state
has never been as blue as it is right now.

There are loads of reasons, some of which have been discussed on the site before and not the least of which would include wild spending by the party's previous administration. (Fear not, those of you familiar with the site already know that should anything like we saw over the past 4 years occur again 1 it'll be posted here as soon as possible when I call for the heads of those involved.)

Thankfully - There's a new Sheriff in town!

Five Things Democrats Don't Understand

on Monday, August 15, 2011

 1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Is Japan Nervous Yet?

on Wednesday, August 10, 2011

China's first aircraft carrier

The vessel is a refurnished Soviet-era carrier, the 990-foot-long Admiral Kuznetsov-class Varyag

Nanking China

Japan has been the traditional bully / aggressor in Asia since the beginning of recorded time, racking up a record of torture and death that would make even Hitler & Stalin combined seem paltry.

Only recently has Japan even acknowledged their actions in China during the 1930's, the most notorious being the massacre of Nanking.

The United States should extract ourselves from our various treaties with Japan.
Especially those guaranteeing our intervention should Japan suffer long overdue military aggression lest we find our forces defending a nation that cheats ours at every opportunity.

Consider the following:
Arriving in Beijing one would find themselves in a Chinese made Buick Taxi Cab, ride past a McDonalds, KFC and probably a WalMart on their way to the Hilton.
No such experience is likely in Tokyo.

Japan's markets are virtually closed to both our produce and products with but only handful of notable exceptions.
(A fact conveniently ignored by those who happily purchase Japanese nameplate vehicles.)

China's markets are much more open to us yet many Americans find it easy to rail against China while ignoring the damage Japan does to our own manufacturing base and overall economy.

Despite their "new" Carrier China is no threat, but Japan is no ally.

Click on the chart below for a larger view and note that currently the United States has 24 of the world's now 37 Aircraft Carriers.

Spammer Apprehended

Spam King Indicted for Facebook Spam

Notorious spam king Sanford Wallace is facing federal fraud charges for allegedly breaking into Facebook accounts and sending 27 million spam messages in 2008 and 2009.

Wallace, 43, allegedly used a phishing attack to steal user-names and passwords from victims and then used the stolen credentials to post spam to victims walls, the U.S. Department of Justice said. Wallace allegedly made money from the scam by driving Web traffic to affiliate marketing companies, who pay their members by the number of clicks they can deliver to websites.
The charges are outlined in an indictment, filed July 6 but made public Thursday after Wallace turned himself in to federal authorities.
Wallace gained fame as one of spam's most vocal defenders back in the 1990s and he has faced numerous civil actions over his activities, including lawsuits from MySpace and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
However this is the first time he's facing criminal charges.
Wallace has also been sued by Facebook, which won a US$711 million civil judgment against him. As part of that judgment, he was banned from Facebook, and the criminal indictment accuses Wallace of contempt of court for allegedly logging onto the social network during an April 2009 Virgin Airlines flight from Las Vegas to New York. Wallace also allegedly set up a Facebook profile in January of this year under the user name David Sinful-Saturdays Fredericks.
"We applaud the efforts of the U.S. Attorney's Office and the FBI to bring spammers to justice," Facebook said in an e-mailed statement. "Now Wallace also faces serious jail time for this illegal conduct. We will continue to pursue and support both civil and criminal consequences for spammers or others who attempt to harm Facebook or the people who use our service."
Wallace could get more than 16 years in prison, if convicted.
He was released Thursday on a $100,000 bond. His next appearance is set for Aug. 22 at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in San Jose, California.
